a short bio
You have to be really really interested in something in order to cross the Atlantic from one coast to the other in order to get better at it. That's exactly what I did. In September 2012, I flew for the first time from Chile to Poland (the flight is almost 24 hours long). There, I studied for a year with Zygmunt Krauze, who completely changed the way I look at music, until today. After that, I travelled to the Netherlands, where after 4 years of studying with Martijn Padding, Diderik Wagenaar, and Cornelis de Bondt, I got a Bachelor's degree in Music Composition from the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. Turns out that the city of peace and justice, as they call it, also has a completely crazy contemporary and experimental music scene.
During this time, I explored different areas of music-making. I grew up as a classical violinist, and this led me to perform a lot of my fellow students' music. I also did a lot of free improvisation during that time, which opened my mind to new sounds, and new ways of dealing with music ("what? you don't have to write any of this down?!").
In 2010, I received the Young Talent Prize at the Joseph Dorfman Memorial Composition Competition, which happens during the International Summer Music Academy in Ochsenhausen, Germany. Amazing place to go and spend 2 weeks hanging out with composers from different parts of the world, enjoying the truest German countryside, getting lessons from awesome teachers, and having your pieces performed. The piece I wrote for that occasion was The Man and the River.
In 2015, I received the Second Place in the Princess Cristina Composition Competition, in the Netherlands. The piece was an Ave Maria for soprano and piano, which was performed by the amazing Sterre Konijn (soprano) and Cathelijne Noorland (piano). I think this is the most beautiful performance I've ever had of a piece of mine so far.
